Harbor Freight offers a hand held metal detector for detecting metal in lumber. Its a wand design. List for $14.99 + s/h. If anybody's used one let me know . I'm thinking about trying one. Thanks SD

Im hearing some positive reviews on the harbor freight pinpointers. I guess for the money it might be a great investment! However I also hear, its a hard one to get your hands on, since its back ordered!

I know several fellers who use one and are quite happy with it. I've been thinking of picking one up for a spare and backup.

| I have one and it is a great pinpointer. It has good sensitivity and better than other pinpointers I have owned. The pinpointer does not have a vibration mode but I seldom used that mode on my other pinpointers. It is worth having at that price even for a backup unit. I use mine all the time now. Since Detectorist discovered this item Harbor freight has had a difficult time keeping them in stock. Buy yours at the store because shipping will cost an extra 7 dollars.

Yes, its a great pinpointer. It may not be like the $169 pinpointers but it does the job very well. I have recommended this little baby on other forums as well and almost everyone who has bought it say it does the job. I only heard one complaint and that was the tip came off one of the pinpointers. Just return it.
Its become so popular because of the price, that it's hard to get them now. Sometimes they go on back order, but sometimes if you visit your local HB store you might find them there. Many people have.
The only problem is that if you order from their online catalog it takes forever to get your purchase.
Get the pinpointer. It will say you lots of digging time. I never leave home without mine. Put in a good 9 volt and get rid of the junk battery that comes with it. Just my opinion.

I have also heard some good things about it, and for the price - you can't beat it...

Yup it IS a must and addictive too. I drove all the way to a new ball park I had not yet MDed, got out there, couldn't find my target and realzied I left the dang pinpointer at home. I drove all the way back to retrieve it!!!!!
The Harbor Frieght Pinpointer is cheap but it does the job. I have never used the Whites but I am told by some people who have used the BullsEye pinpointer that there isn't much difference. So why pay $119 when you can pay $14.95? I have never used the SUnRay either. Maybe for the money they ask there is something about the pinpointer that makes it worth that much money?
There is something you need to be aware of about the Harbor Frieght pointer;the tip can come off when your probeing so be carefull how much force you use when probeing the inside hole! I've only heard of one person having this happen to them, but one is one too many!
I originally posted about the Harbor Frieght pointer a few months back on FindMall Forum. Before that I hardly heard a word about it. After spreading the GOOD NEWS the word spread like wildfire! HB can hardly keep the little feller in stock!Hahahaha. I never dreamed I'd be helping China out!!!!
That said, its only fare to say there are other pinpointers such as TinyTec. You can look at the ones available at http://tinytec-probes.com and check out the prices of the different models. I've never used one of these but I have heard some very good things.

Where it says "Find by Keyword", type "Metal Detector". I ordered one for my dad in early June and he just got it. It was like $25.00 after shipping.
